Codes and Conventions of Newspapers

-Tabloid size, usually A3
-Usually aimed at a specific audeience, whether through area of residence or social class
-Contains celebrity gossip as well as local/international news stories
-Often very exaggerated headlines
-Lots of adverts to help funding
-Quite visual with pictures and layout
-Articles set out in columns
-Usually black and white
-Font cover has more colour as it is the Lead Story
-May offer crossword, sudoku etc. on last page
-Must show what the newspaper's attitude is towards the news of the day (usually conveys an opinion, rather than staying neutral)
-show that it contains certain stories (hopefully including better coverage of main stories than any other newspaper)
-Masthead, BIG BLACK FONT. Usually quite gothic and old fashioned
-Will contain the journalists name underneath article

Introduction

I will be creating the first two pages of a Local Newspaper as my A2 media coursework. I will be researching and compare existing Newspapers to get an idea of what articles I should include and get a good idea of some layouts and advertisment ideas. I will also create a poster to advertise the release of the newspaper and a radio advert to raise awareness of it amongst the audience. I will have to think about what people want to read about within their community and structure my newspaper to accomodate this.
